Deron has been practicing law close to 20 years. His career started with a boutique securities firm that focused on clients in need of corporate and securities transactional work, which included assisting private companies to raise start up and seed capital. Deron also handled all matters related to SEC and FINRA compliance as well as assisting clients in the “going public” process from start to finish. Deron also handled litigation matters, primarily focused on business related disputes.
In November of 2001, Deron started his own firm with another partner, the focus of which remained corporate and securities matters. In July of 2004 Deron became a partner of Abrams, Garfinkel, Margolis & Bergson, LLP, a firm located in New York. Deron ran AGMB’s Orange County office where he managed approximately 10 employees. While with AGMB Deron advised numerous development stage corporations in the “going public” process. He also negotiated, structured and closed numerous multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions. In 2009, Deron founded Janus Capital Law Group where he continued to focus on corporate and business related matters, transactional and litigation.
Through the years Deron has developed extensive experience in all aspects of SEC disclosure, including the preparation and filing of registration statements and periodic reports. He also has negotiated and assisted in the raising of both private and public investments. Deron has developed relationships with Investment Banking Firms, Venture Capitalists, Brokerage Firms, numerous Auditing Firms and several Hedge Funds.
More recently, Deron applied his business and securities experience to the emerging legal cannabis industry. In June of 2016, Deron joined Horwitz + Armstrong, a Professional Law Corporation, where he represents both private and public companies, some of which are in the cannabis space. In that respect, Deron has closed multi-million dollar financings for several public companies. He also handles all the FINRA and SEC compliance work for these same companies.
Deron has also acted as a securities expert in litigation matters, including matters involving the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
Deron M. Colby received his law degree from Western State University, College of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from California State University in Fullerton.
